Hi everybody! Just want to say it's great to see a discussion forum for Wong Kar Wai's work. I only recently started watching his films, which is funny considering that back in 2000 or 2001, I was absolutely intrigued by the trailer I saw for "In the Mood for Love," at our local art-house theatre. DUH! What took me so long???? I have no idea; but I finally did see ITMFL around the beginning of the new year, along with "Happy Together," then "2046," and THEN, I was sold. I guess I've seen all of his feature length work. I like the atmospheric, mediative quality of his films, something I always had liked in the work of Peter Weir, or in the music of Van Morrison. I recently re-watched ITMFL for perhaps the tenth, and best time. Always great when a piece of work has such depths to mine.

Welcome. We've all had our one favorite that got us hooked. For me it was Chungking Express, around 97 or 98. I got it from blockbuster, cause it was one of Tarantino's first releases from his production company, and fell in love with WKW and Faye Wong, haha. One of my favorite characteristics of WKW's work, is that high rewatchablility of his work. I've probably seen CKE more than a hundred times or so over the years.

Chungking Express is a charmer! I can't help but laugh every time I see the part where Takeshi declares he ate all 30 cans of pineapple, and then gets the bright idea of drinking alcohol to calm his upset stomach.

Faye Wong is a doll. She reminds me so much of Audrey Tautou.

Greetings from WI. Things have been a lot slower than they were a couple years ago around these parts, but it's always great to see new WKW fans popping up.

I'm sure things will pick up when "The Grandmasters" is released. :)

After watching Eros I was hoping he would work on another romance film. And while we're on the subject Why did "The Hand" have such a horrible English translation when it was arguably the best of the three short films in Eros. I couldn't help stopping the video on numerous occasions and cursing myself for not being able to understand Mandarin. I'm excited about Grandmasters too since his last Wuxia film was superb. I hope its more like Ashes of time and not so much like Fallen Angels but I get the feeling there's going to be more action than romance involved. Either way I know I'll be impressed.

After watching Fallen Angels I realized that the Tony Leung movie Grandmasters probably isn't going to be anything like Fallen angels

Temporary lapse in judgement on my part for thinking the fruit cocktail that is Fallen Angels could be compared to the upcoming Grandmasters film; I suppose the only thing Grandmasters could come close to being compared to would have to be Ashes Of Time. I liked how Tony Leung's scenes were choreographed in Ashes Of Time; I wonder how he'll do in Grandmasters. It'll also be interesting to see how how Chang Chen does too.
