latest news and rumors about wkw's my blueberry nights.

from lonestar's earlier post:

Norah Jones will make her silver screen debut as the female lead in the film described by Wong as about "the story of a woman who takes the long route instead of the short one to meet up with the man she loves." The cast may also includes Rachel Weisz and Jude Law. Looks like Wong's Nicole Kidman project, The Lady from Shanghai, is definitely postponed. The past Cannes winner and the jury president of this year's Cannes Film Festival, Wong Kar-Wai was inducted into the French Legion of Honour yesterday, for inventing a new language of cinema.

Update:

Variety has confirmed that the cast of the romantic comedy My Blueberry Nights includes Norah Jones, Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz. The story is about a young woman, played by Noah Jones, who is traveling across America to find he meaning of love while meeting unusual people en route. Shooting of this Wong Kar-Wai's first English language film, produced by Studio Canal, will begin shortly after the Cannes Film Festival wraps up.

My Blueberry Nights is a yet-to-be-made film directed by Wong Kar Wai. It is in pre-production, and will most likely start shooting in June 2006 and be made before the long-in-development The Lady From Shanghai. It is supposed to be Wong's first English language film, and will star Norah Jones, Rachel Weisz and Jude Law. Although it had been rumoured to be a film concentrating around the events of the Hurricane Katrina, Wong has denied this and says it will be a road movie, instead.

I feel faint already thinking of WKW directing Portman, Weisz, Jones, and ouch Law. In a good way !

Anyone know if this will be a completely HK production outside of the leads ? Or a HK-Hollywood joint venture ?

Ed Harris in final talks to join the film.

"Ed Harris will be in the film. We are talking to Kevin Spacey," Wong told The Hollywood Reporter while swigging back free drinks at a Cannes party.

Grammy-winning singer Norah Jones will star with Jude Law, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz in a film for Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai.

"Of course everyone knows her because she's a singer, but I didn't pick her for this film because she's a very successful singer. I think she's suitable for acting," Wong said in an interview with Hong Kong's Cable TV at the Cannes Film Festival.

"This is instinct. It's like how I felt that Faye Wong could act when I first saw her a few years ago. There's a very special aura," Wong said, referring to the Chinese pop diva who appeared in his movies "Chungking Express" and "2046."

Asked if "My Blueberry Night" was written for Jones, Wong said "you could say that."

He said Jones' character has a romance with Law's, while Portman and Weisz portray people she meets.

Cable TV quoted Wong as saying filming will take two months. Production on the film, "My Blueberry Nights," is expected to begin within the next few months, he said.
