hello there!
i am new here, my name is fred. nice to meet you everyone :)
i was recently running through HK and taking pictures of some WKW locations ...well you might not reconize a couple of them since it has been quite a while since the movies were shot...

i start with the McDonalds in tsim sha tsui where the killer (leon lai) met with blondie :)
Image

then also in tsim sha tsui only a few meters away from mcdonalds i found blondies apartment where she spend the night with leon lai

more pictures follow as soon as i have the time....actually i was only able to find these locations because of my girlfriends travel guide which she bought in japan. and this is featuring a little "wong kar wai special". it points out some of the locations :)
sorry for my crappy english by the way ;)

fred

It's pretty cool to see some of these locations. I had the opportunity to travel to HK a few years ago and also tried to visit some movie locations but I didn't research very thoroughly ahead of time and so was relegated to the easier to find ones. I'd like to see more when you get the chance.

chungking express: lan kwai fong: well here the "midnight express" snack bar where they came all together :)

Image

this and the previous one that i posted here were both taken in 2006 while the other ones where taken at the end of 2008. however, as for this picture....midnight express was unfortunately already closed down. (as far as i know since nov/dec of 2005 or a bit longer)
as we've read in some other post already, in that place there is a 7-11 convenience store at its place right now. what a shame ..

Great, ,very interesting!
Just came back from Hong Kong yesterday, what a great city---- I also strolled in Chungking Mansions, and the roadside food stalls look suspiciously like Stanley Street...
Did you also take pics of the Soho-to-Mid-Levels elevator? And where was the Chungking Express apartment?

Thanks again!

I took the elevator up, and walked down. But up there, you were just able to get to say one guesthouse... I had imagined it to continue like on the lower two floors. I also didn't see the lane where the Indians make the garments (that get used to smuggle drugs later). Where were those, maybe not inside the Chungking?
Would love to see more!

you mean you saw only one guesthouse?? :? ...hm, well the chungking mansions are divided into 5-blocks and is like 17 or 18 stories tall. and i guess it contains like 45 guesthouses.

the scenes with the indians were entirely shot in the chungking mansions. at least thats what christopher doyle mentioned in his book "angel talk". then again he didnt mention exactly which hostels they picked to shoot there, but i could find out that they used two hostels. first the "garden hostel" ...and then the "chungking house".

also if anybody else has pictures of WKW locations, please feel free to post them here :D

No I meant I only went up to one of them ;-)
Do you know where to obtain "Angel Talk"? And what are the names of the other Christopher Doyle books?

well i just checked the pictures from the escalators. you can see the apartment there, but its all quite blurry and not worth uploading, i thought :)

however, as for the doyle books.
they are actuallly all out of print, as far as i know! ...sometimes you can get them at amazon 2nd , if you keep an eye out :)
