Ok, so here are two new WKW DVDs by Kino.

FALLEN ANGELS

Image

- Remastered From New HD Film Transfers
- Presented For the First Time in 5.1 Surround (Supervised by Wong Kar-Wai)

Commonly regarded as one of the most influential directors of contemporary cinema, Wong Kar-Wai (Happy Together, In the Mood for Love) has developed a signature style that employs bold, experimental uses of photography, music, and editing to capture the tension of the new millennium. Originally intended to be a third story in his now classic Chungking Express, Fallen Angels has emerged as what some critics have come to consider his (quintessential work.) Set in the neon-washed underworld of present day Hong Kong, Fallen Angels intertwines exhilarating tales of love and isolation, primarily the unconsummated love affair between a contract Killer (Leon Lai Ming) and the ravishing female Agent (Michele Reis) who books his assignments and cleans up after his jobs.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Three Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes
- Interview with Cinematographer Christopher Doyle
- Trailers
- Stills Gallery
- Enhanced for 16x9 TVs

HAPPY TOGETHER

Image

- Remastered From New HD Film Transfers
- Presented For the First Time in 5.1 Surround (Supervised by Wong Kar-Wai)

Winner of the Best Director prize at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival, Wong Kar-Wai s Happy Together is a stunning display of filmmaking style and a touching story of love on the brink of dissolution. Hong Kong cinema superstars Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung play a pair of lovers living out the waning days of their relationship as expatriates in Buenos Aires. Lusty tango bars, the salsa music of the La Boca sidewalks, and a hypnotic visit to the nearby Iguazu Falls give further dimension to the tensions growing between the two lovers. With its stylistic magic (Newsweek), Happy Together cemented the international reputation of Wong, the director of such films as In the Mood for Love and Fallen Angels.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
- (Buenos Aires Zero Degrees - 1999, 59 Min.) A Documentary On the Making of HAPPY TOGETHER
- Wong Kar-Wai at the Museum of the Moving Image (2008, 44 Min.)
- Trailers
- Stills Gallery
- Enhanced for 16x9 TVs

it will be my fourth dvd of HT.
i own the german dvd from kinowelt, the us dvd from kino (the special edition from 2004) and i will own the new uk dvd from artificial eye and this new kino edition.

i like the transfer of the kino special edition from 2004, but i also wanna hear the 5.1 sound and see the new extras:-) (i ain't got the limited 10th anniversary edition from asia)
and i hope that we will get buenos aires zero degree in better quality...
i'm only concerned how they want to get the main movie, the documentary and a 44min interview and trailers on a SINGLE dvd.

Sounds like they used the same transfer as the new AE DVD.
No surprise, really.

Kind of a review:
http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/review?oid=oid%3A764411

They don't say anything about deleted scenes on the Fallen Angels DVD... I'm a little scared that they aren't on the DVD.
Quote:
Kino's provided a wealth of extras, too, not the least of which is a trio of behind-the-scenes featurettes, the most mesmerizing of which focuses on Fallen Angels' erotically charged final scene: Reis zoning out, in extreme close-up, with egg noodles drowsing up from chopsticks to pink lips while her man becomes unfocused and bloodied behind her.

Three Behind-the-Scenes featurettes are on the disc-
*ONLY YOU - a deleted segment of the film (which in a way seems like an alternate ending)
*WHOM YOU MISS - an interview with the manager of the hotel in the film who is actually the real manager of the same hotel.
*A BEAUTIFUL EVENING - focus on the unique visual style of FALLEN ANGELS which uses a lot of wide angled close-ups.
*Also included on the disc is an interview with Director of Photography Christopher Doyle who has worked on several films with Wong Kar Wai. Rounding out the extras are trailers for FALLEN ANGELS and HAPPY TOGETHER

I hope this is the kiss scene between Michelle and Takeshi.
otherwise i'll be very very very very very very very sad.
I hoped for 15minutes of deleted scenes like on the Japanese release (which I don't have).

well, i ordered them at http://www.amazon.com and paid with my credit card.
i used to order uk / us dvds at http://www.cdwow.net, but i had some trouble with them in the recent past... (pm me for details^^)
the advantage of cdwow is that you don't have to have a credit card, they also do debit transfer. but they're not as trustworthy as they used to be.

I just rented the new copy of Fallen Angels from my favorite video store in the entire world, Four Star Video Heaven. If any of you should ever happen to end up in Madison, Four Star is the place you'll want to go.

The picture looks a bit better than the Second Kino Version. Unfortunately, it's still cropped down to 1.78:1 from 1.66:1. I have yet to do a side-by-side comparison with my other copy, but the remastered sound seems to be different in spots. This includes usage of the alternate version of the Killer's theme that fabi91 pointed out in another thread in the Memorabilia forum.

However, the "alternate version" of the Killer's theme is actually the same as the original, but with less reverb and apparently at a lower pitch. I have noticed that on many WKW DVD's the pitch seems to be lower on the music than it should be otherwise.

The extras are rather annoyingly non-anamorphic. However, the picture quality is good.

"Only You" appears to be a behind-the-scenes featurette from the Japanese DVD. This is based on the fact that it uses the same interview with Wong Kar Wai that was used in the Chungking Express. It does, in fact, include the legendary "alternate ending" and the kiss between Takeshi and Michelle.

"Whom You Miss" is a very entertaining feature on the manager.

"A Beautiful Evening" has some interesting tidbits and a few tantalizing images of unused footage.

Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I've seen all these on YouTube, but it's great to have them on a DVD.

Have yet to watch the interview with Doyle.
