Can anyone tell me, did Michelle arrange for Leon to be killed at his last mission?
There's a part where Michelle made a call to "place a font page advertisement for a friend" . Did she have him killed because he wish to end their partnership?

*I love Chungking Express too but love Fallen Angels more as the whole story is presented as a whole instead of ending 1 story and starting another.

Great question. As i recall i do believe that Michelle Reis character did decide when he will die. She set him up. He kinda knew what was coming either and remember he also said that he likes it when things have been arranged for him. But both Michelle and Leon did have a connection. And could have been friends. But their professions

: (

I'm so sad now

But I don't understand why she did it because she seemed to have deep feelings for him and her job is simple, coordinate and check out the place he is supposed to carry out the mission. He said he likes it when things have been arranged for him but this time its different, at least it was a decision he made himself and yet he doesn't seemed to be in a suicide mood. Even wanted to open a shop to settle down. Its sad because Takeshi's story is so touching but this one is quite depressing.

He wanted to break off the partnership, and she was devastated. Sometimes when you can't have them, you...kill them?

Now Im trying to accept the twist to the story and the ending, where Michelle's character end up with a good start with Takeshi's happy-go-lucky character.

But it's not a happy ending for them. Kaneshiro and Young's characters have already let too many opportunities pass as Kaneshiro states. The whole point, as I took it was that at least this ephemeral moment (i.e., riding on the bike holding someone) was sublime; despite all that's happened there is still beauty in a small moment of connection. I love this closing scene because just as the monologue ends, you have them emerging from the tunnel with some skyscrapers looming large on the horizon suggesting the limitless possibilities of the future contrasted with the puff of smoke that he exhales being blown away in a moment, reaffirming the all too brief duration of this moment of warmth.

As to the OP, for my part, I didn't think she (Reis) had planned to kill him (Lai). It was just a job gone wrong. It was a risky business and sometimes things went awry; it was a painfully ironic (a critic might say predictable) twist to have him get bumped off on his last job. But for me I think of it as a job gone bad, not as the agent setting up the assassin.

I don't think we're supposed to have a definite answer. I always thought she had him killed, but after watching it numerous times, I could believe either way...

...

... nonetheless, reading through this topic makes me want to watch this magnificent film once again.

I've seen it scheduled for "2009". Kino really should've made an official announcement regarding the delay.
