I read in the promo for the film on the disc that the movie was shot in Beijing and later in Macau. The reason was that the Chinese wanted a copy of the script. Wong Kar-wai didnt have any pre written script. I dont believe that. Having seen 'in the mood for love' four times in the last four days, I just cant believe that.

One example why. When Mr.Chow is coming out of the Suen/Chen apartment just as Mrs.Chen is entering, she notices his tie. Later there is that story of the tie. How do you do such detailing without a script?

Anyone?

When you have a passion for a story you want to tell...believe me
you will know every single minute detail.

There probably is so much detail that you have to cut /trim/skip a lot of your thoughts : )

He may have even filmed the conversation about the tie before he filmed that scene.

Can anyone tell me what the writing at the very end says? You know, after Tony whispers his secret into the hole and covers it with mud, just before the film ends. :D

monty mike,

in case you haven't found the translation...

that bygone time,
it's like beyond a piece of
glass that's covered with dust,
(you) can see it, but cannot grasp it.

he has been missing everything from that past all the time.

if he could break that piece of dusted glass,
he would have returned to that bygone time.

I saw this Movie in a Anthropology class.

I have quite never been treated to such an all-encompassing experience like ITMFL. The score, story, characters, cinematography, acting .. all left me breathless.

It was like making love for the first time.

A Taiwanese R&B singer wrote a song inspired by ITMFL and the name of the song, Su Li-zhen.

Enjoy:

While some here think it's done easily I imagine he did have at least pieces of a script. He may not have begun with a complete screenplay but he would have worked with something written down. That's my guess.
