hey hey,

I have a copy of the Hand on VCD that a friend lent me (he picked it up from Chinatown), and from the looks of it, there are parts of In the Mood For Love on it, that I'm assuming, never made it to the final cut cause I've never seen these scenes before.

There's quite a bit of it, 40 mins worth maybe, and since I don't understand Mandarin (which it's dubbed in and subtitled in Chinese) I have no idea what's going on.

The Hand is on it too, but there's plenty of "scenes" from ITMFL on it.

Has anyone else ever seen this footage or know what it's about? I can't find any information on this anywhere.

thanks,

Jasper

I don't know about anything that your talking about, but I do have a question. Do you think The Hand should of been called The Hand Job?

There's a bunch of deleted scenes on the UK/French dvd - that might be it. But I don't think there's 40 minutes though.

I have seen it. It is movie which includes 3 short movies: The Hand by WKW, Equilibrium by Steven Soderbergh and The Dangerous Thread of Things" by Michelangelo Antonioni .

The Hand is not the best of WKW, but it was ok and better than the other two movies. It is the story about love and desire. I don't remember has it something to do with 2046, but it is quite different.

On the dvd there is interview with WKW and the actors.

I watched it completely

It is something like 40 min,

Is a very good piece, much better than the other 2 and not being in the same level of In the Mood For love I like this one very much too.

You can find the English subtitles here:

But does anyone know anything about the paintings used in the introduction of the movie?

I saw in the mood for love in theatres when I was younger. I thought it was a pretty good movie. I was looking forward to seeing 2046 for a while
based in the movie posters. I loved it and saw it twice in theatres, I may not have realized it was a sequel to itmfl until after. I prefer 2046 as it parallels my own life in many ways. I learned about the hand a few years after and finally saw it about a year ago. Amazing as well, and I guess it tells the back story of gong li's character. I don't think I have ever seen it with english subtitles. What to say what to say. It's simply amazing, I know I have something to say about it but it hasn't quite come to me. I guess that's the magic of it. I wonder if there will be a continuation to 2046. I sure hope there will be. In some ways blueberry nights was a continuation and I thought that film was genius as well. What stood out for me about it was the lying character. I knew someone very much like that in my own life. It illustrated how the people we know in life have to do with our own relationship to the one we love. So, more on the topic of the hand. I don't know...again, I think there's something to say but...I guess it's this. Gong li's character may be the most interesting to me in 2046...and she may be the most beautiful of the 4 or 5 or 6 even romantic interests of tony leung's character. Why she felt she had to leave him...I guess in some way this fills that part in. The relationship between the designer (clothes) and the escort... reaches it's directness here. And it's a beautiful connection. The artist desires sex and the sexual woman desires the intelligence of the designer. Two different kinds of energies intertwining and relating. She was destroyed..for what reason?
I guess that's life. In many ways it's a mystery and wkw portrays the mystery with so much beauty and depth. Also just the chinese culture...
unbelievably powerful, the thickness of hong kong...wow. There's still something there that I can't quite articulate, either I've forgotten it or it's
just the mystery of it that I can't be described...if I remember, I post.

I'd really like to hear about thoughts of a 3rd installation...
