REPLACE Tony Leung? Doesn't seem likely, no? Leung's been training for months and months, and turning down other roles purely to prepare for this film. Yes?

It's likely a reporter got the information mixed up as Chang Chen is rumoured to appear in the film as a different character.

WKW confirms that Chang Chen will star in the film and has been training in martial arts.
Denies that he will replace Tony Leung as Yip Man.
A press conference to officially announce the film will be forthcoming.

Tony Leung said that practising Wing Chun in preparation for the film resulted in him becoming addicted to training.
Wong Kar-wai has been talking about making a film about Yip Man for ten years.
There has been a positive response to rumours that Brigitte Lin may make he comeback in the film but the decision is ultimately left to the actress.

This is probably nothing, but Wong Kar-wai and Carina Lau have been spotted coming out of a bar in Shanghai with retired actress Rosamund Kwan, fuelling speculation that she could be making her comeback in WKW's new film.

Ip Chun (son of Ip Man) said in a TV interview that Brigitte Lin will appear in the film. It's rumoured that she had a secret meeting with Wong Kar-wai in Taiwan to discuss the film.
However, Jet Tone said that the current list of the actors has not been released, that only Tony Leung and Chang Chen are confirmed. The casting decisions of the other roles will soon be announced, as well as the shooting schedule.

do you know if they have finished casting for Bruce Lee. I know a person who looks 90% like Bruce Lee and I want to nominate him.

No-one has been officially cast as Bruce Lee.

Appearing on a Hunan Satellite TV talk show, Ip Chun (son of Ip Man) claimed that Brigitte Lin has agreed to play the headmistress of a kung fu school in Wong’s film. Asked by reporters to confirm Ip’s claim, a spokesperson for Wong Kar-Wai’s Jet Tone Studios refused to comment.

In the interview, Ip went on to say that he has been helping Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, who has been cast by Wong to play Ip Man, prepare by teaching him Wing Chun. Ip: “When he first started learning it, he didn’t feel much affinity for Wing Chun but now that he’s been working on it, I think he’s become more and more interested. When he’s at home, he’ll ask Carina Lau (Leung’s wife) to practice ’sticky hands’ with him. He’ll also ask me to test his skills once in a while.”

The film's executive producer Ng See Yuen was quoted by a report on China's NetEase website as saying on Sunday: 'Lin Ching-hsia and Tony Leung Chiu Wai will pair up and play man and wife, which is to say she will play Ip Man's wife.'

Hmm, if Brigitte Lin is playing Ip Man's wife, maybe the previous rumor of Gong Li playing the mistress of the other school is correct? In any case it's great to hear some real confirmation Lin will be in the film. That's just fantastic.

I'm getting pretty hungry for some substantial news on this. Shouldn't they be close to shooting now? This summer correct? I'm dying to find out who's going to be DP on this project. A reunion with Chris Doyle would be a dream.
