Thankyou su-shi, this is very interesting.
The Peter Brunette book quotes an interview with WKW where he says that As Tears Go By was to have been the central film of a trilogy, where the first part had not been filmed and the third part would be Final Victory directed by Patrick Tam and written by WKW; and this alternate ending would make that possible.

i'll go for the original ending. The alternate ending is too "sweet" for me.

It sounds like it's Dave Wong Kit singing the song. Can anyone confirm that for me?

Awesome to see alternate endings to your favourite films. Especially when they're so different from the originals. I liked this one. Good song.

A new print of WKW's eponymous film opens Friday, running for just a week, in Brooklyn:

Am I the only one who forgets As Tears Go By and associates Days of Being Wild as being Wong Kar Wai's first film?

Not that I'm saying As Tears Go By is bad, it just seems... like not a Wong Kar Wai movie.

The thing is, after re-watching it recently, I realized that it does have a lot of his signatures in it. The overall atmosphere feels less like a Wong Kar Wai film to me, though. Maybe it's the fact that it's the 80's and has that element of 80's cheesiness to it. Maybe it's the whole John Woo "male bonding" thing to it. Maybe it's the simple fact that Andy Lau actually has a requited love. I don't know.
